KEJŘŮV MILL

Prague 9 - Hloubetin

The Kejruv Mill is a former water mill which is located by the Rokytka creek in Stary Hloubetin - Prague 9. The history of the mill dates back to the 16th century. The mill and the surrounding land were owned by the Order of the Red Star Crusaders, which also owned the farmyard in Hloubetin. At the end of the 16th and the beginning of the 17th century, during the mill’s peak production era, the mill included 3 flour wheels, 11 cultivable fields and 2 meadows. The mill was burned and destroyed during the Thirty Years War and was later rebuilt. In 1718 the mill was significantly modified, however, after the wars over Austrian heritage the mill was destroyed yet again. Jakub Bartl, a wealthy citizen of Prague, renovated the complex in 1781 and then it was renovated again in 1912 by Josef Kejr, after whom the mill is named. A plaque with the inscription ‘Jos.Kejr.1917’ also commemorates this owner. After the Second World War, the mill stopped production and was repurposed into a warehouse. At the beginning of the 21st century the historic buildings were renovated and new buildings were constructed, creating a unique project of modern apartments, with a touch of history. The closed residential complex with a park and a children's playground is based on the layout of the original mill. It consists of seven buildings - a reconstructed original villa, a mill, a granary and four new, four-storey buildings with a total capacity of 79 apartments with layouts from 1+kk to maisonettes with 4+kk. Parking spaces, cellars and technical facilities are in the underground parkade. There is a central reception on the ground floor of the granary, which serves as the entrance to the complex. There is also a common fitness area and sauna for residents to enjoy. The complex is surrounded by a city forest and is located near a cycle path.
