NATIONAL LIBRARY IN PRAGUE
Prague 7 - Letná
At the turn of 2006 and 2007, a competition was held for the design of the urban, architectural, technical and operational design of the new building of the National Library of the Czech Republic in Prague on Letná Plain. The motto of our design is John Amos Comenius's work "Labyrinth of the World and Paradise of the Heart". The library with its unique collection of historical and contemporary literature is designed as a "paradise of the heart" located in the labyrinth of the surrounding busy world. The interface between the outside world and the world inside the library is formed by a double façade providing an unobstructed view of the surroundings and at the same time protection from the sun's rays. The building reveals its contents to the city, while at the same time the city reveals itself to the visitors inside with panoramic views and narrow vistas The library is not only a place for studying books but also an important place for meeting or contemplation.
